HIALEAH, FL. - Inclement weather canceled ASA Miami's game vs Erie Community College in Petersburg, Virginia scheduled for September 2nd. That led to ASA moving up a game against the University of Ft. Lauderdale scheduled for later in the season. The Silver Storm would come out on top 54-29.
Now, after two weeks off and everyone in the state of Florida recovering from Hurricane Irma, ASA Miami welcomes the NJCAA's fifth ranked team in the country, Snow College, on Saturday with kickoff set for 1:00pm. ASA Miami plays their home games at Ted Hendricks Stadium (4800 Palm Ave, Hialeah, FL 33012). Snow (4-0), will make the trip from Ephraim, Utah after defeating then ranked #6 Mesa Community College 59-36 on the road last Saturday.
The key for the Silver Storm's defense will be to slow down a very impressive rushing attack from Snow. ASA wants to stuff the run early and force the Badgers into passing downs. ASA Miami linebackers coach Justin Mullgrav made a great comparison in football to boxing. "If you can take away an offenses ability to run the football, it's the same as if you were to tie the hand of a boxer behind his back. No one wants to fight with one hand tied behind their back." Currently, Snow is averaging 344 rushing yards per game and have eclipsed 400 yards in their last two games. Also, the Badgers have four of the top 50 rushers in all of the NJCAA.
As for the other side of the ball, the Silver Storm will look to their play makers to make a difference in the game. Both quarterbacks, Voshon Waiters and Matt Winzeler have spread the ball out to several backs and receivers this season. Coach Boden continues to rave about the improvement in depth at all positions this season compared to last year. ASA's offense is averaging 53 points per game and 385 yards per game.
