HIALEAH, FL. - ASA College Miami released their 2018 Football Schedule on Wednesday, May 23rd. The Silver Storm will take on four teams who finished last season ranked in the top 20 of the 2017 NJCAA Football Rankings. ASA Miami Football is independent and does not belong to an NJCAA conference due to their geographic location. ASA Miami is the only football program in the state of Florida. Next season, by playing five NJCAA opponents, the Silver Storm are eligible to receive an NJCAA bowl bid if they finished the season ranked in the top 20.
The home opener for the Silver Storm will be on August 25th against Advance Prep Academy at Ted Hendricks Stadium. ASA Miami is 3-0 all-time against APA and has outscored them 134-6.
The first NJCAA opponent of the season will be Lackawanna Community College on September 1st. This marks the first time that both teams will face each other. Lackawanna was the 2017 runner-up in the Northeast Football Conference and finished the season ranked 19th in the country. The location of that game is still to be determined.
Snow College finished the 2017 season 10-1 and ranked fourth in the NJCAA. Their only loss came against fellow Western States Football League foe, Arizona Western. Last season, Snow took their talents down to south Florida and beat ASA 58-36 in Hialeah. However, ASA's defense was impressive in the third quarter, forcing three take-away's against Snow and another turnover on downs against the Badger offense. ASA cut the Badger's lead to 37-29 with 7:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. This year on September 15th, the sequel will take place in Ephraim, Utah.
ASA Miami and Georgia Military College have played five times in the last three years. This year they will play a home and home against the Bulldogs in 2018 for the third consecutive season. GMC will travel to Hialeah on September 29th. They are also an independent team and the closest geographically to ASA Miami. The Bulldogs finished last season ranked 18th nationally.
The Silver Storm will face another NJCAA opponent for the first time this season when they head to North Carolina to take on another independent opponent, Louisburg Community College on October 20th. The Hurricanes were undefeated in 2017 (7-0).
Other ASA Miami home games include North Florida Prep (Sep. 8), Southern Prep (Sep. 22), Advance Prep Academy (Oct. 6) and the University of Ft. Lauderdale (Oct. 13).
