HIALEAH, FL. - Eugene Joseph made his debut exactly one week ago today against Game Changers Academy. The Silver Storm would win that game 84-72 and ASA seems to be a completely different team now having won three of their last four games. Individually speaking, Joseph has put up impressive numbers during the four game span averaging 13 points, six rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 55 percent from the field. Those numbers could be higher, but Joseph wouldn't attempt a shot in the game against Hillsborough Community College due to foul trouble. He only played 16 minutes. However, what's more impressive is how the team and the players around him are playing since he joined the rotation. In the four games in which he has played, ASA's offensive efficiency has rocketed. The Silver Storm is averaging 87 points per game while shooting 45 percent, compared to the three games without him when they averaged 61 points per game and shot a poor 30 percent from the field.
Sophomore guard Darius Sawyer is benefitting from Joseph's emergence the most. Sawyer is averaging 18.5 points and eight rebounds per game in the last four contests. This weekend, Sawyer recorded back-to-back grown man double-doubles against Hillsborough and Polk State. Sawyer had 24 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks against Hillsborough connecting on 6/12 three point attempts.
- Anthony Gomes is currently third in scoring among Region VIII participants with 20.4 points per game.
- For the first time in program history, ASA Miami had multiple double-doubles in the same game against Polk State. Eugene Joseph (15pts/10rebs) Darius Sawyer (24pts/10rebs).
- Marquez Smith is currently second in steals among Region VIII participants with 3.6 steals per game.
- ASA Miami is currently tied for fourth among teams in Region VIII with 189 free throw attempts this season.
