Kala Penn Finishes 3rd/5th at NJCAA Championships

HUTCHINSON, KS. - Kala Penn has been making waves all year long in multiple events for the Silver Storm. Penn qualified for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in the triple jump and long jump at Hutchinson's Gowans Stadium. In just three short years, this is the first time that ASA Miami has anyone qualify nationally. The Silver Storm had two other individuals qualify, as well as the 4x100 men's relay team.

In the triple jump, Penn finished third nationally with a jump of 12.82m, that marks a personal best for her this season. In the long jump, Penn finished 5th with a jump of 5.79m. Unfortunately for Penn, this was not her best jump of the season. Penn's best jump was 6.24m at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational. The long jump national champion had a jump of 6.05m in Hutchinson.

Other participants for the Silver Storm were Ronique Todman and D'Carlton Grant on the men's side. Ronique placed 18th in both the 200m run (21.71) and the 400m run (48.10). Grant participated in the 100m run, finishing with a time of 11.04.

Head Track Coach Sidney Cartwright was very proud of his program's accomplishments this season. "We are still a young program. To have kids qualify and compete on a national level, is very impressive. The best is yet to come for ASA Miami."
